Atlantic Beach family photos do not need to feel stressful, stiff, or like another thing to manage on a busy weekend. Taylor and Mitch wanted photos that captured their real life with their son, Regan: playful, connected, a little wild, and full of the love they have built together.
Their session was everything a beach family session should be. We had soft light, open space, a toddler who wanted to explore, and parents who were fully willing to laugh, move, and enjoy the moment with him.
Taylor is a NICU nurse at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, and Mitch recently graduated from nursing school and is beginning his nursing career. Their days are full, and this season of life is moving quickly. Regan is 21 months old, curious about everything, happiest outside, and deeply loved by both of his parents.
That is exactly why this was the right time for photos.

A Family Story Built on Safety, Adventure, and Love
Taylor and Mitch first met in 2018. They kept catching each other’s eye, and Taylor remembers immediately thinking Mitch was handsome. They officially began dating in 2022 after both had been through difficult seasons of life.
They found a safe place in each other.
Their early days together were full of friends, time on the water, and plenty of adventure. That same easygoing spirit is still there now. Only now does it include a little boy who loves the beach, his Momma, and his Dada.
Taylor loves how Mitch takes care of their family and how he is always ready for an adventure. Mitch loves the way Taylor loves. And together, they both love everything about Regan: his smile, his personality, his energy, and the way he makes ordinary days feel important.
Most Saturdays are simple. They are outside together.
That is one of the reasons Atlantic Beach felt right for their family photos. The beach gave Regan room to move, gave Taylor and Mitch space to relax, and let the session feel more like time together than a formal photo appointment. Can we say that the afternoon clouds and sun did not disappoint?
Family Photos Can Be Easy
Many parents worry about family photos. They worry that their child will not listen, that outfits will not work, or that everyone will look awkward on camera.
But this session is a good reminder that the goal is not perfection.
The goal is your family.
We began with a few relaxed, classic photos while everyone was fresh. Then we let Regan move. He walked near the water, reached toward the sky, ran down the beach, played with his parents, and gave us the kind of expressions that cannot be planned.
There was no need for him to sit still for an hour. There was no pressure for Taylor and Mitch to constantly look at the camera. They simply stayed close, picked him up, laughed with him, and followed his lead.
That is where the best photos usually happen.
A family session with a toddler should include movement. We make room for walking, cuddling, chasing, splashing at the water’s edge, and taking breaks as needed. The calm, classic portrait is still important, but it does not have to be the entire session.
You can have both.
The Photos That Matter Later
Taylor said she wants to look back at these photos in 20 years and feel like she can go right back to that moment.
That is the whole point.
Regan will not always be small enough to be held on Taylor’s hip. He will not always run barefoot toward the water with that same big curiosity. Taylor and Mitch will not always be in this exact season of new careers, engagement, and raising their first little boy.
These photos hold onto that for them.
They will be shared with family, hung in their home, and kept for years. The most meaningful part is that the images are not only beautiful. They feel like them.
They feel laid-back. Playful. Adventurous. Loving.
Atlantic Beach Family Photos with Russ Bratcher Photography
The best family photos are not about perfect poses or perfect behavior. They are about being present with the people you love.
For Taylor, Mitch, and Regan, that meant walking along the shoreline, holding each other close, letting Regan explore, and trusting that the small in-between moments mattered just as much as the big smiles.
For your family, it may look a little different. Maybe your children want to run. Maybe someone is shy at first. Maybe you are worried your husband hates photos. That is okay.
You do not need to know how to pose. You do not need to make your children perform. You just need to show up ready to be together.
I will guide the rest.

FAQ Section
Q: What should we wear for Atlantic Beach family photos?
A: Keep it comfortable and simple. Soft neutrals, light textures, and outfits that move well in the wind photograph beautifully at the beach. Read more about what to wear for Jacksonville beach photos.
Q: What if my toddler will not sit still?
A: That is completely normal. Your child does not need to sit still for the session to work. We use movement, games, walks, cuddles, and short breaks to capture natural photos that feel like your real family.
Q: Can we get both candid and classic family photos?
A: Yes. We start with a few gently guided, looking-at-the-camera portraits, then move into playful, natural moments. You get photos for the frame and photos that tell the story.
Q: What time should we schedule beach family photos?
A: The softest light is usually closest to sunrise or sunset. We will choose a time that works best for your family, your children’s schedule, and the season.
